Today’s youth are the centre of lots of dissenting behaviour, be it because of them, or dissenting themselves. As pointed out in the Prezi, today’s youth and their actions, including dissent, is a topic of choice for the media. Occupy is an example of today’s youth taking part in widespread dissent across many different countries, for many different specific causes. However this seems to be one of the only examples of today’s youth displaying dedication to a cause and making change happen. A common theme in campaigns such as occupy, especially when involving youth is that while we (myself as a youth) make our voices heard, most of the time we do not commit to making change ourselves, we’d rather leave the change to those in positions of power and influence than influence change through activism ourselves. This is where the term ‘slacktivism’ comes from.
